Maps Gallery

Jasper creates detailed microbiome maps involving thousands of microbial reference genomes with the potential to unravel latent relationships that could remain hidden using other visualization techniques.

We used Jasper to visualize microbiome samples from the Human Microbiome Project and data from a Chronic Kidney Disease study by our collaborators. In this gallery you can find some examples about the maps we created.

Taxonomic Ordering

An ordering scheme that uses the taxonomic tree from the reference genomes. Note that for our reference collection we used the Ensembl Genomes bacterial collection. In this ordering, pairs of taxa belonging to the same taxonomic group (say the same Genus or Species) are placed close to each other along the curve, and consequently, close to each other in the Hilbert image.

Labeled Ordering

A user-defined ordering scheme that uses a custom biological interpretation to layout the reference genomes. The interpretation could be anything, such as different disease states (if we are comparing disease samples), time intervals (time-series analysis) or locations (body sites, environmental sites, etc.), or any other user-specified label.

Time Series

Microbiome maps are great for creating animated movies of your data. You can create individual maps for each of your samples and then stitch them up to see how microbial neighborhoods “light up” or “dim down” through time.

The mixologists at our bar, Refill, create innovative and delicious cocktails with a chemist’s precision. Beers crafted by London’s best breweries are on tap and rotated monthly to keep our selections interesting. We also have a small stage where musicians and entertainers of all kinds perform for the sensory delight of our guests.
